Churchill is honored to host a special celebration with San Francisco’s beloved record shop Discodélic, in collaboration with Mexico’s archival powerhouse Desierto Records, as they unveil their newest reissue — a long-awaited release from one of Mexico’s most versatile and influential groups: La Comparsa Universitaria de la Laguna.

Formed in 1964, La Comparsa carved a singular place in musical history, fusing rock, go-go, boogaloo, surf, tropical rhythms, ranchera, and the unmistakable edge of early Mex-Funk. Their powerful arrangements, blazing horns, and the iconic voice of “El Güero” Jaime Hernández turned regional sounds from the Comarca Lagunera into a nationwide phenomenon — and later, a near-mythical treasure for collectors around the world.

Following Discodélic’s in-store release event, join us at Churchill as we celebrate this new chapter in the band’s legacy. Expect deep cuts, heavy funk, border-blurring rhythms, rare vinyl selections, and a night honoring the spirit of the musicians who shaped a movement.

Mr. Big Happy Birthday Celebration @ Marigold

Churchill’s premier event space, Marigold, hosts an exclusive birthday celebration for Mr. Big Happy — the San Francisco–based DJ, record collector, and host of The Big Happy Show on NTS Radio. Known for his deep, dance-floor-shifting selections of boogie, soul, and global grooves, Mr. Big Happy brings his refined ear and infectious energy to this special night.

Joining him behind the decks is world-renowned Belgian tastemaker LeFtO Early Bird, whose adventurous sets weave through house, jazz, hip-hop, and beyond. Together, they’ll turn Marigold into a rarefied sound experience — a celebration of rhythm, culture, and connection.
